Ports of Call

Tampa (Days 1, 11)

Tampa is renowned for terrific boating, fishing and swimming. But theres so much more, with the fascinating old-world culture of Ybor City, and of course, Busch Gardens -- 300 acres of rides, animal exhibits and live entertainments.
Attractions & Activities
For a little fun, head down to Ybor City, the Cuban district of Tampa, which used to be the center of production of hand-rolled cigars. Today this restored area is teeming with restaurants, shops and bars. It's also a National Historic Landmark District with amazing wrought-iron balconies, globe street lights, brick-lined walkways and the majestic architecture of the old cigar factories.

Cabo Rojo (Day 4)

The bay at Boqueron, part of the Municipality of Cabo Rojo, extends some 3 1/2 miles inland, sheltering over a mile of white sand bordered by clear water is wonderful for swimming and lounging.

Oranjestad (Day 5)

Oranjestad, the lovely Dutch-gabled capital, is situated on the southwest coast of Aruba. Enjoy the beautiful beaches, colorful Dutch-style houses, busy duty-free shops, and glittering casinos.

Attractions & Activities

The water off Aruba is teeming with marine life. You can see it all up close by taking a submarine 150 feet below the sea. You'll pass scuba divers, coral reefs and shipwrecks on your journey.

Willemstad (Day 6)

Dutch settlers came here in the 1630s, about the same time they sailed through the Verazzano Narrows to Manhattan, bringing with them original red-tile roofs, first used on the trade ships as ballast and later incorporated into the architecture of Willemstad. Much of the original colonial structures remain, but this historic city is constantly reinventing itself and the government monument foundation is always busy restoring buildings in one urban neighborhood or another. The salty air causes what is called "wall cancer" which causes the ancient abodes to continually crumble over time. The city is cut in two by Santa Anna Bay. On one side is Punda (the point)—crammed with shops, restaurants, monuments, and markets and a new museum retracing its colorful history. And on the other side is Otrobanda (literally meaning the "other side"), with lots of narrow, winding streets and alleyways (called "steekjes" in Dutch), full of private homes notable for their picturesque gables and Dutch-influenced designs. In recent years the ongoing regeneration of Otrobanda has been apparent, marked by a surge in development of new hotels, restaurants, and shops; the rebirth, concentrated near the waterfront, was spearheaded by the creation of the elaborate Kura Hulanda complex. There are three ways to cross the bay: by car over the Juliana Bridge; by foot over the Queen Emma pontoon bridge (locally called "The Swinging Old Lady"); or by free ferry, which runs when the pontoon bridge is swung open for passing ships. All the major hotels outside town offer free shuttle service to town once or twice daily. Shuttles coming from the Otrobanda side leave you at Riffort. From here it's a short walk north to the foot of the pontoon bridge. Shuttles coming from the Punda side leave you near the main entrance to Ft. Amsterdam.

Falmouth (Day 8)

Step off the ship and step back in time. Time where quaint wooden houses lined the streets, village carpenters hand craft custom furniture, and tavern keepers warmly greet town guests. Falmouth Jamaica is often compared with Colonial Williamsburg, but this particular historic town comes with an advantage - the beautiful Caribbean Sun. You'll return with sun kissed skin, timeless memories as well as interesting historical tidbits to share with friends, like this one: Falmouth received piped water before New York City.
Attractions & Activities
Take a stroll through Falmouth's Historic District and explore an impressive collection of nineteenth-century Georgian architecture. Many of the buildings are still intact and renown for their unique gingerbread woodwork. From small wooden houses to brick Georgian mansions to plantation complexes, here you'll find yourself on a delightful excursion of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

George Town (Day 9)

In a place that forgot to age, beauty abounds as far as the eye can see. Endless cool, powdery sand meets sheer coral reefs in the area aptly called Seven Mile Beach. Along the way theres Pedros Castle, Turtle Crawls and the wild orchards and parrots of Rum Point. In this British Crown Colony, over 100 species of rare birds coexist with fascinating sea life and blossoming flora and fauna.
Attractions & Activities
Experience a once-in-a-lifetime adventure: snorkeling with stingrays at Stingray City Sandbar. These relatively tame creatures will swim right into your arms and eat from your hand. They have velvety soft skin and love to have their bellies rubbed. Despite their frightening name, they are very gentle and won't hurt you as long as you stay away from their tails.
